Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

This permit is issued to Dr. Ashraf (Mining Institute, University of the Witwatersrand), in collaboration with Profs. Cawood and Ali (Mining Institute, University of the Witwatersrand), for the installment of sensors (Seismograph, weather station, extensometers/tilt meters, stress/strain gauges,shape arrays, crack/joint meters, air speed/quality) to monitor ground behavior near the entrance of the Sterkfontein Caves NHS within the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (COHWHS).

Conditions:

1. A representative of the COHWHS Management Authority (MA) must be present on the site during the installation. SAHRA must be provided with the name of the authorised representatives.

2. All waste material and left over equipment will be removed from the site once the installation has been completed, and the site will be left in the manner it was found (save for the new installation).

3. The landowner must be consulted before any intervention.

4. A permit report on the results of the maintenance activities must be submitted to SAHRA by the end of August 2018. The report must include copies of the photos taken by the COHWHS MA of the affected area prior to, and post installation.

5. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and to ensuring that he/she has an understanding with the landowner concerning: the number of workers; speed limits on access roads; possible prohibitions on trespassing beyond the site; disturbing fauna, flora or substrate; appropriate hours of visiting and working on the site; use of firewood, electricity and water; lighting fires and the prevention of uncontrolled fires and any fencing necessary to protect livestock. Conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.

6. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

7. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
