Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

The MUCH Unit at SAHRA is pleased to approve the abovementioned permit application. The permit is issued under condition of compliance with the following:

1. If the permit holder is not present on the site at all times, the SAHRA must be provided with the names and contact details of his/her authorised representative(s).

2. This permit gives the holder and/or his/her authorised representative(s) the sole right to work on Pepper Bay Harbour including four quays, two boat ramps, rock revetment and debris removal for the duration of the permit period.

3. All works must be limited to the activities described in the Project Description and its appendices. All activities undertaken must be for the sole purpose of

  • Concrete repair and maintenance of existing marine structures;
  • Maintenance and repair of timber quays;
  • Maintenance and repair of quay furniture (bollards and fenders);
  • Removal of debris along the timber and concrete quays; and
  • Maintenance of existing rock revetments.

4. This permit does not give authorisation for damage/disturbance of any cultural heritage material not mentioned in (3) above. In particular, permission is not hereby granted for the disturbance of any shipwrecks whatsoever. Should any cultural heritage material not mentioned in (3) be discovered and be at risk of damage/disturbance as the result of the activities undertaken under the authority of this permit, SAHRA must be notified immediately and work must cease and may not commence until feedback has been received from SAHRA. Should any shipwrecks be discovered, SAHRA must be informed of their location and this information must be included in the permit report referred to below.

5. It is the responsibility of the permit holder or her authorised representative to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.

6. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

7. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

8. The closing report for works in the Pepper Bay Harbour must be made available to SAHRA within one month of the expiry of this permit.

9. This decision can be appealed within 14 days of the issuing of this permit.
