Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export Permit for synchrotron scanning of plant fossils from Wapadsberg Pass

The permit is issued to Dr. Rosemary Prevec (Albany Museum, Grahamstown) to temporarily export five (5) plant fossil specimens of Sphenophyllum speciosum on 8 mudrock slabs (3 specimens comprising part and counterpart) from Old Wapadsberg Pass near Graaff Reinet, in the Eastern Cape, for non-destructive, high resolution CT scanning at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France. The material is currently housed at the Albany Museum, Grahamstown.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Albany Museum, Grahamstown.

3. The material will be hand-carried by Dr. Rosemary Prevec or Dr. Julien Benoit and Mr. Kuda Jakata (Evolutionary Studies Institute, Univeristy of the Witwatersrand) to the ESRF and back.

4. Dr. Rosemary Prevec, Dr. Julien Benoit and Mr. Kuda Jakata are responsible for the transport of the material to and from the ESRF and Dr. Rosemary Prevec is responsible for the analysis.

5. The material must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. No destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 October 2018.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
