Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

History: Building opened 10 October 1879 but the Girls' Public School opened 15 July 1891. An east wing for the nursery school was added in 1897 and opened in 1899.

It is a fine example of Victorian public architecture and a building of considerable importance in Beaufort West.

Visual Description: Double storey stone building. Main facade comprises triangular main gable with Palladian windows below; pair of split rectangular gables over other windows. Split semi-circular over side (paired) windows. Louvered lantern roof ventilator.
