Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export of sediment samples from Member 1 Lower Bank of the Swartkrans Formation

Conditions: 

For permanent export of eight (8) sediment samples from Swartkrans National Heritage Site.

The permit is issued to Prof. Kathleen Kuman (University of the Witwatersrand), in collaboration with Prof. Travis Pickering (University of Wisconsin-Madison), to permanently export eight (8) sediment samples from Member 1 at Swartkrans National Heritage Site for cosmogenic nuclide burial dating at Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement (PRIME) Laboratory, Purdue University, Indiana. The material is currently housed at the Archaeology Department, University of the Witwatersrand.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Archaeology Department, University of the Witwatersrand.

3. The material will be couriered to Purdue University, Indiana.

4. Prof. Darryl Granger (Purdue University, PRIME Lab) is responsible for the analysis of the material and Prof. Kathleen Kuman for its transport the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. The samples must be used for study purposes only and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. Destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 August 2019.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
