The Heritage Statement for Robben Island Museum recommends the following:
That proposed interventions be permitted to address the needs arising from the implementation of the Integrated Management Plan as they do not compromise the integrity and authenticity of the site. However, an evaluation must be carried out after the installation, to mitigate any unforeseen impacts appropriately and final installations must be monitored as well as inspected by a competent heritage authority.

SAHRA has no objection to the proposed restoration work at Nelson Mandela Gateway and the re-interpretation of the prison at Robben Island as described in the above documentation. A closing report composed of photographs of the complete works must be uploaded onto SAHRIS upon conclusion of the project. Please note that these approvals are only applicable to the above mentioned work.
