Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Isotope sampling of archaeological shells for seasonal reconstructions

This permit is issued to Dr Emma Loftus (McDonald Institute of Archaeology - Cambridge) to export 190 shellfish specimens (Elands Bay Cave - 27; Nelson Bay Cave - 51 and Klasies River Main Site - 112) for serial oxygen isotope measurements.  It is noted that the analysis will be done at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3ER

Conditions:

  1. The objects or specimens must be clearly marked with accession numbers.
  2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the accession numbers, the name of the site, and the name and address of the permit holder or the University of Cape Town for the Elands Bay and Nelson Bay material, and Wits University for the Klasies River Main Site material . 
  3. The material must be hand carried or sent via a reputable professional courier service unless written instructions to the contrary have been received from the repositories.
  4. The samples must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.
  5. All samples and specimens not subject to analysis must be returned to the respective South African repositories. 
  6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than Dr Emma Loftus without the consent of SAHRA.
  7. SAHRA must be notified in writing of the return of the material, and a report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 December 2020.
  8. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA. A permit report must be submitted to SAHRA on or before 31 December 2020 to the following email address: apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za.
  9. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  10. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
