Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Temporary export of RP/2005/002 to Perot Museum, USA

The permit is issued to Dr David Pearce (Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand), on behalf of Dr Becca Peixotto (Director at Perot Museum of Nature and Science) and in collaboration with Dr David Pearce to export a painted slab RP/2005/002 from the Fetcani Glen site (Barkly East District, Eastern Cape) for exhibition purposes at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas, Texas. The material is currently housed at the Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Rock Art Research Institute.

3. A condition assessment must be done upon return and submitted to SAHRA appended to the permit report.

4. The object will be accompanied by a staff member of the Rock Art Research Institute. 

5. Dr Becca Peixotto is responsible for the safety of the material for the full duration of the object's presence at the Perot Museum, and for the return of the object back to South Africa. 

6. The objects must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above-stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. No destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 30 June 2020

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within the South African legislative framework.

14. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
