Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export Permit Application for Wonderwerk Cave 2019

Conditions: 

The permit is issued to Dr Chazan (University of the Witwatersrand, University of Toronto) to temporarily export micromorphology blocks and permanently export sediment samples from Excavation 1 at Wonderwerk Cave, Northern Cape Province for isotope, microfaunal and micromorphological analysis at Department of Earth Science, University of Toronto, Canada; Institut für Ur- und Frühgeschichte, Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Kiel, Germany; Department of Archaeology, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, Canada; Department of Archaeology, Boston University, US; and National Natural History Collections, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. The material is currently housed at the McGregor Museum.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the McGregor Museum.

3. The material will be couriered to the above institutions.

4. Dr Michael Chazan is responsible for the transport of the material to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections. Dr. Don Davis (University of Toronto) is responsible for Uranium-Lead Dating at University of Toronto; Prof. Francesco Berna (Simon Fraser University, Burnaby) and Prof. Paul Goldberg (Boston University) are responsible for micromorphological analysis at their respective institutions; Dr. Michaela Ecker (Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Kiel) and Prof. Dr Hervé Bocherens (Universität Tübingen) are responsible for isotope analysis at their respective institutions; Dr. Liora Kolska Horwitz (The Hebrew University, Jerusalem) is responsible for Histological analysis at The Hebrew University.

5. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. Destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before 31 December 2020 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.

13. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
