This permit serves as an extension to existing permit SAHRIS PermitID 2910 and is issued to Dr Jennifer Botha-Brink (National Museum Bloemfontein) for invasive sampling of 45 dinosaurian skeletal elements and a recent addition of three bones (BP/1/6936, BP/1/5202, NMQR 3314) from the Elliot Formation in the Karoo Basin, within the Free State Province, for osteohistological analysis. The material is currently housed at the Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand; NMQR 3314 is housed at National Museum Bleomfontein.
Conditions:
1. Sampling may not reduce the structural integrity, or the potential for future morphometric and descriptive research. Bones must be well recorded prior to sampling.
2. No paratype material may be sampled.
3. Sampling and analysis will take place at the National Museum Bloemfontein.
4. Specimens and associated histology slides from the ESI collection must be returned to the University of the Witwatersrand by 20 July 2020 as requested by the Curator.
5. A permit report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before 31 March 2021 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory. Permit reports can be made available to researchers on request within three years of the lapsing of this permit.
6. Copies of all the published papers and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with the heritage authority.
7. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries by or to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
8. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
9. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.
10. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
