Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export of three micromorphology samples for thin sectioning

Conditions: 

The permit is issued to Dr. Hayley Cawthra (South African Council for Geoscience, Cape Town) on behalf and in collaboration with Dr Erich Fisher (Arizona State University), to temporarily export 3 micromorphology samples for thin sectioning, from Waterbluff, Lombasi District, Eastern Cape. The samples are currently housed at the East London Museum, East London.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the materials stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site and the name and address of the permit holder or the curating institution.

3. The material will be couriered to Spectrum Petrographics, Inc. 3315 NE 112th Avenue, Ste B82, Vancouver, WA 98682, Canada.

4.  Erich Fisher is responsible  for the transport of the samples to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. Destructive sampling is permitted under this permit (3266).

6. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. SAHRA must be notified in writing of the second phase of the study and subsequent transfer of the materials from the Spectrum Petrographics, Inc. 3315 NE 112th Avenue, Ste B82, Vancouver, WA 98682, Canada to the South African Council for Geoscience, Cape Town.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za on or before 31 December 2022 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.

14. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
