Permits

This permit is issued to Dr Jennifer Botha (National Museum, Bloemfontein) for invasive sampling of limb bones of nine (9) gorgonopsian specimens from the Karoo for osteohistological analysis at the National Museum, Bloemfontein. The materials are currently housed at the Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand (BP/1/1258); Iziko Museums of South Africa (SAM-PK- 10188, SAM-PK- K4460, SAM-PK- K6407, SAM-PK- K6415, SAM-PK- K10035, SAM-PK- K10000, SAM-PK- K10110); and Council for Geoscience (AF 39-83; FL 43).

Conditions:

1. As the sampling will reduce the structural integrity, suitable records (measurements and photographs) must be taken prior to sampling.

2. No paratype material may be sampled.

3. Sampling and analysis will take place at the National Museum, Bloemfontein.

4. Conditions by the accessioning institution apply.

5. A permit report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before 31 December 2021 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory. Permit reports can be made available to researchers on request within three years of the lapsing of this permit.

6. Copies of all the published papers and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with the heritage authority.

7. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries by or to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

8. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

9. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

10. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
