Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

This permit is issued Prof. Karim Sadr (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg) for test excavations (Shovel Test Pits (STP)) at Kwenemg LIA site Wagon Ranch, Johannebsurg south, Gauteng Province.

1. This test permit is issued under Section 35(4) of the National Heritage Resources Act (25 of 1999) for test excavations (Shovel Test Pits) for the identification of burnt hut floors.

2. If and when materials of potential significance are exposed during the test excavation, the said materials are to be bagged and put back in the pit and the pit back-filled.

3. This permit covers test excavations (shovel testing) to be undertaken on two compounds in Kwneng North only.

4. Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed.

5. A detailed record including a list of artefacts, coordinates of pits, description and photographic record must be provided in the permit report.

6. A permit report on the results of the test excavations must be emailed to 
apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za on or before 31 March 2022 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

7. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for Site visits.

8. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

9. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

10. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

11. Request to renew permits must be done prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
