Permits

This permit is issued to Prof. David Morris (McGregor Museum) for the temporary export of a re-knapped handaxe (SPL 97 St 9) to the Bard Graduate Center, New York for an Exhibition on the theme "conserving active matter". The handaxe is currently housed at the McGregor Museum.

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site, and the name and address of the permit holder.

3. The material will be couriered to the Bard Graduate Center New York, United Sates of America, where Prof. Nina Stritzler-Levine and Eric Edler are responsible for the exhibition.

4. The Bard Graduate Center is responsible for the transport of the material to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged. 

7. The handaxe is exported for the purposes of an exhibition (25 February-10 July 2022) only, therefore any form of analysis including (destructive analysis) are not permitted.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before or on 31 December 2022 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.

13. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
