Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

This permit is issued to Mr Johann Pretorius (Raumix Aggregates (Pty) Ltd and Mr Francois Coetzee (UNISA) for the destruction of two (2) late Iron Age stone-walled sites (sites 1&2) and a historical structure (site 3) for the proposed expansion at Raumix Aggregates Rosslyn Quarry on Portions 34, 35, 72 & 73 of the Farm Klipfontein 268JR, City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province.

Conditions:

1. Monitoring of the sites by Mr Francois Coetzee is compulsory for the entire duration of the work undertaken in proximity of the sites. If Mr Francois Coetzee is not to be present on the sites at all times, then SAHRA must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.

2. The sites were well recorded during the first assessment and as such SAHRA does not require any further recording. 

3. The stones removed from the walls must be stored on site in a manner which is found most suitable by the archaeologist and which does not compromise the authenticity of the site.

4. A permit report on the results of the destruction including photographic records and site must be must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za on or before 31 August 2024, using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

5. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory. Permit reports can be made available to researchers on request within three years of the lapsing of this permit.

6. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.

7. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit. Conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.

8. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

9. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

10. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

11. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
