Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

This permit is issued to Mr Wouter Fourie for the monitoring of construction activities and last documentation of Sites TCHR6 to TCHR10 impacted by the TFC Smelter - 100MW Photovoltaic (PV) Plant Site 5. Mr Fourie will be monitoring the sites while ground clearance takes place on site.

  1. The Permit Holder is Mr Wouter Fourie (PI).
  2. If the permit holder is not to be present on the site at all times then the heritage authority must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.
  3. Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed.  Note that the position of all excavations must be marked on a plan of site.
  4. A standard site record form must be lodged with the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Pretoria.
  5. The proposed method of monitoring of construction activities on sites TCHR6 to TCHR10 outlined in section 10.1 of the permit application document is approved. 
  6. All material collected and excavated, as well as field notes and records, will be curated by the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Pretoria, who will be responsible for the permanent curation and safekeeping of all artefactual material in a condition that allows for ongoing research.
  7. Mitigated material, field notes and records must be lodged with the University of Department of Anthropology & Archaeology at University of Pretoria within one year of the completion of the mitigation work.
  8. A final report on the results of the mitigation must be submitted to the case as a Heritage Report file by 31 October 2024, using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory. No information protected by POPIA must be included in the report. If there is a delay in submitting the report, SAHRA must be informed in writing.
  9. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.
  10. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with the heritage authority.
  11. If a published report has not appeared within three years of the lapsing of this permit, the report required in terms of the permit will be made available to researchers on request.
  12. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
  13. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
  14. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to fill in excavations and protect sites during and after excavation to the satisfaction of the heritage authority and the landowner.
  15. The heritage authority shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  16. The heritage authority reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
