Conditions:
The permit is issued to Dr Lloyd Rossouw (National Museum Bloemfontein), in collaboration with Ms Elisabeth Hempel (University Potsdam/Natural History Museum Berlin, Germany), Prof Michael Hofreiter (University of Potsdam, Germany), Prof PD Faysal Bibi (Natural History Museum Berlin, Germany) and Dr J. Tyler Faith (Natural History Museum of Utah), to permanently bone samples of fossil antelope Hippotragus leucophagus from Besaansklip, Western Cape Province, as well as samples of historical specimens for DNA sequencing at the University of Potsdam, Germany. The material is housed at the National Museum of Bloemfontein (BAS/96/63, BAS/96/2020-1), McGregor Museum (unaccessioned, historical horns) and ATKV-Hartenbos Museum (from mounted historical head).
Conditions:
1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.
2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the curating institution.
3. The material must be couriered or hand carried to the University of Potsdam, Germany.
4. Ms Elisabeth Hempel (University of Potsdam) is responsible for the analysis of the material and its transport to the above mentioned institutions/collections.
5. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.
6. Any unused samples must be returned to the curating institutions in South Africa.
7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.
8. Destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken as per HWC permit HWC23032303AM0426.
9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before 31 December 2024 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.
10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.
11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
13. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.
14. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
