SiteComments:

Situation is typical Early Iron Age valley bottom site on deep soil (sandy) though the flat area is not very wide. Sherds apparently of Mzonjani type as well as Msuluzi would suggest two occupations (or transitional stage?). Distance from sea is 25 km as crow flies. Pot and tuyere found in pit dug by residents of house (about 50-100 cm below present surface). Along road from a little east of shop - and west past bottle store for about 200 m is good scatter of EIA sherds in roadside scrape. By digging in places we found in situ sherds and some charcoal at depths of about 0.5 m but little or nothing on the surface. 600 m west of store and about 150 m south of road where path from homestead to river goes down from terrace, a single decorated sherd among plain ones was found. This may be an extension of the same EIA site.
