Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Provenance: 

The rifle is a decommissioned military rifle from the period 1960’s to 1980. 

It was used in the fight for the liberation of Rhodesia which is now known as Zimbabwe by the then communist backed guerrilla forces. The weapon is a SKS manufactured in Russia.

It was presented to a Major General L Jacobs, the Rhodesian Army Commander for the Operational area in Rhodesia known as Repulse based at the Joint Operations Centre. (JOC)

It was presented to him by Comrade Agnew Kambeu the ZANLA commander for the sector known as Musikivanhu. It was presented at the end of hostilities in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe in 1980 to Major General Leon Jacobs.

This weapon was manufactured at best estimate in the 1950’s and 1960’s in Russia. These weapons were supplied to Liberation forces all over the world including Africa. Countries that received these which are relevant to the liberation of Rhodesia were: - Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania. The weapon is approximately 40 to 50 years old.
