Changes to SAHRIS!

This implement was recovered from most likely a Later Stone Age burial contexts.

Provenance: 

This specimen, described in the accession catalogue as a stone implement hafted in cement, was collected from a cave near Kynsna by J. S. Henkel before October 1912 (see below for details on the acquisition of this piece). Goodwin (1929) describes this piece as follows:

“One [other] hafted stone implement from this area is housed in the South African Museum. It consists of a similar mass of cement attaching a flat unworked flake of slate to a stick. This was discovered in a cave near Knysna, and is mentioned in a letter from Mr. Henkel to Peringuey (S. A. M., 11th October, 1912): ‘I attach a sketch with measurements of an implement found in a cave. Undoubtedly it is of the same kind as figured in Plate xix, 150. I can give you no further particulars at present, but am sending this hurried note to report the find. As apparently the implements are rare’ (Plate XLII).”
