Site Comments:

Site N6-4.BP01.2 (S31Å28’52.4”; E26Å43’01.2”) – Middle Stone Age (MSA) artefacts were also observed within the farm access track and immediate surrounds, approximately 600m east of the BP01 borrow pit study site. Here artefacts were visible at a few surface exposures, with exposures measuring between 2-9mÑ in size and with a rough count of approximately 5-9 exposures containing varying artefact densities, with artefact ratios (artefacts:mÑ) averaging 3:1. Flake and blade types dominates the low density occurrence and the fine grained metamorphic stone used for artefact production resulted in artefacts of a quite remarkable technological quality and in general an assemblage, despite low artefact densities, of a far superior quality than that observed at Site N6-4-BP01.1. The Site N6-4.BP01.2 occurrence is reported on here for purposes of proximity to the proposed study site and to further describe the general cultural receiving environment. The site will not be impacted on by the proposed development: Direct access from the N6-4 will be used for purposes of utilization of the BP01 borrow pit.

Site N6-4-BP01.2, a low density MSA occurrence situated approximately 600m east of the proposed BP01 study site is ascribed a SAHRA Low Significance and a Generally Protected C Field Rating. The occurrence will not be impacted on by the proposed development: The site will be conserved in situ.
