In 1971 the church, which is still in its original position, was sold as it became dilapidated. A new church was built in Belhar for the congregation.  Through the intervention of concerned conservationists and with the aid of the Cape Provincial Administration this building was saved from demolition and restored.  It was unveiled by Rev. JP Serumer.

Description:

A classical temple with the Dutchess architectural features and design outside, wooden floors and spiral staircase to the top, old organ and wooden benches at the bottom to the top. The gold lamp stands on the sides of the top seating area with drop-down light chandeliers. A display of the old bibles and silver crockery on each side of the temple. There are also glass slides with pictures and detailed information. Dropdown banners with historic information. An imposing pulpit made in neo-classical style and a beautiful organ with decorative pipes. The site is located on Long Street with restaurants, a design shop, bars, lots of activities around this area.  It is quiet inside the church.

It was a meeting house, for prayers, bible studies or other religious and literacy classes. For this reason it was not called a church, but "GESTIG" which is equivalent of an American "meeting house". Twenty years later it became a fully fledged church for the poor khoikhoi and slaves who converted to Christianity.
