Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Site Comments:

This double storey Victorian house is at the end of a row of attached town houses. It has an asbestos cement slate roof with a tall chimney and double storey triangular bay window. The gable extends out over the barge decoration the cast iron vent.

The double storey verandah has a corrugated iron roof and is supported on cast iron columns with brackets. Below the first floor is a decorative frieze, and the ornate balustrade has been reproduced from segments of the original. The end walls are decorated with plaster moldings. The bay window has 2 x 2 and 1 x 1 sashes with moulded plaster surrounds and Louvered shutters on the ground floor.

The front door is paneled, with the upper part glazed and with a large fanlight. There are French doors opening onto the balcony above. The small front garden is surrounded by a low wall with posts and a decorative cast iron railing, with a superb gate to match. The interior is largely unaltered. The sitting and dining rooms and hail have pressed metal ceilings The sitting room has a marble fireplace The wooden staircase is particularly fine, with turned balusters and newel posts, and carved decorations. The wooden floors have been retained.
