"The original building of the Kimberley Club, which was founded in 1881, burnt down in 1886, as did its replacement in 1895. The present building, designed by the architect D. W. Greatbach, was completed in 1896. It was extended in 1919 by the architect William Timlin.
The Kimberley Club was used by many celebrated civic and military dignitaries during their visits to Kimberley, including Cecil John Rhodes, Sir J. B. Robinson, Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, Dr Harry Oppenheimer, Lord H. H. Kitchener, General 3. D. P. French and Field Marshall Viscount B. L. Montgomery.
The Club has been honoured with visits from the Royal Family, including the Duke of Connought (1906), the Prince of Wales (1925), Prince George (later Duke of Kent)
(1934), King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret (1947)"
