Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

English style stone church
Stone: fibre cement tiles (originally Welsh slate)
Steep pitched hammer beam roof
Tower has an unusual stone steeple
Parapets, gables and buttresses have dressed stone copings
Teak doors
The nave has diamond pane leaded lancet windows in green and gold glass with one stained glass picture window (1879)
The chancel has a stained glass triple lancet window by Cox & Buckley of London
Entrance portico has high Gothic arch and windows are narrow pointed Neo-Gothic style

Interior:
Plastered stone walls
Oregon pine floor
Ceiling constructed with diagonal boards over timber purlins on arched main rafters springing from hammer beams at buttress points
Doors constructed of heavy timber V-jointed boarding
Carved oak altar, recedos, pulpit, pews and priest’s desk in Chancel
Nave has original oregon pine pews

Site Features: Flight of stone steps from street to porch. Stone retaining wall on Marsh Street boundary
