History: The bungalows represent a style of seaside holidaying that was popular in South Africa, but
of which very little remains. They were built in the aftermath of WW II. It was especially people from inland who had the need to escape the heat who came to camp at the Point on the common, and later to build their bungalows. Year after year family and friends came to relax in an informal way. In several cases the bungalows have been used by the same family form generations.
The structures may be regarded as vernacular in the sense that available materials were used to build the structure that would provide the necessary accommodation for people on holiday. They were demountable.

The land on which the bungalows are situated was owned by the municipality and known
as erven 3345 and 3600 until consolidation into erf 14721. The land was leased to the occupants or owners of the structures. Recently, the land was subdivided into 38 erven and sold to the occupants.
