History: The farm Kleinbosch was granted in 1692 to Francois du Toit, the Huguenot ancestor of the Du Toit family in South Africa. It became a true family farm and in 1792 Guilliam du Toit built the present building on it. As was the custom of the time, a cemetery was established near the house, and here a number of Huguenots and their descendants lie buried.

The cemetery is of special importance because three of the founders of the “Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners”, an organisation established in 1875 “to stand for our Language, our Nation and our Country”, are buried there. These three, who were also leaders of the so-called “Eerste Afrikaanse Taalbeweging” are the Rev. S. J. du Toit, D. F. du Toit and P. J. Malherbe. Amongst others also buried there are Martha Retief, a sister of the Voortrekker Piet Retief, and the Afrikaans author D. P. du Toit.

Admin Comments:
This cemetery was laid out circa 1700 by the Huguenot progenitor, Francois du Toit, on his farm Kleinbosch. The predominant reason for its historical significance is the fact that three founders of the "Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners" are buried here. Bibliography archive:
