History: This house stands on the land bought from the Church by Jacob de Bruyn in 1796. It was probably built by Christiaan Willem Broodryk, who bought the top half in 1805. It is T-shaped, like no 22 Church St, with which it stands back to back. Its gable, preserved intact until the 1969 tremors made part of it collapse, is holbol but topped by a 3-lobed pediment with a vase on its face. The house had been restored previously - when it was turned into a library - but the sash windows which were then inserted were incorrect. The Simon van der Stel Foundation bought the house and had it restored. [Oberholster: p97. V. d. Meulen: plIO.]
