History: The South African forest industry had its beginnings on this site when Joseph Storr Lister, Conservator of Forests of the Western Conservancy of the Cape Colony, laid out this impressive arboretum in 1885. The arboretum is world famous among botanists, horticulturists and sylviculturists on account of the large variety of indigenous trees growing here.
