History: This blockhouse is prominently situated on a low rise a few hundred metres to the north of the main road from Alberton to Vereeniging, a few kilometres south of the point where that road is joined by the road from Johannesburg. Ten km south of the blockhouse is the small town of Meyerton, and eleven km beyond that is Vereeniging. The blockhouse was a part of a line of blockhouses built by the British during the Anglo-Boer War which extended from Noupoort in the Cape to Pietersburg in the Northern Transvaal and was intended to protect the railway line from destruction by the Boers.
