History: This impressive sandstone building was erected in 1894 by the Dutch-Reformed Church to house the girls’ school known as the Seminary. Since 1903 the building has been used as a girls’ hostel by the co-educational Government school, except for a period of eight years when it functioned as the Girls Government School. The building therefore occupies an important place in the history of education in Bethlehem.
Visual Description: It is a double-storeyed building with plastered sandstone walls and a pitched corrugated iron roof.
