History: It was built originally as a villa for Mrs Joel In 1903 and was designed by W.E.Robarts. The Boulle family lived there from more than 40 years.
Visual Description: A double-storey house with corrugated iron roof; window openings of a large glazed panel sash variety. It represents one of the few remaining Berea villas which exists in an intact condition. It is the 3rd element of a group of three buildings which have a remarkable uniformity of design. They are all set back in well established gardens with large trees and shrubs. Features include a picturesque asymmetry of’ the composition of verandahs and gables, face-brick walls (which are relatively unusual for such a building), and even some original light fittings. It is probably the last building designed by W. Robarts, an architect of stature who was also responsible for designing Green and the Little Abbey. This double storey Natal Edwardian verandah house has great dignity and elegance and is a really imposing residence, being a period piece of considerable character.
