Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Archive Import: Significance: This site is one of the earliest large scale gravity-fed water supply schemes in South Africa. It contributed to the growth and development of the City of Durban through the advancement of the health, welfare and the social development of the people of the City and via the supply of water to areas which were previously without a reliable source thereof.

The remains of the Umbilo Water -works... The remains of the dam wall, bridge, inlet tower, settlement dam, filters and clearwater reservoir, as well as an area bounded in the north-east and east by aline 30 metres from the middle of the river: in the south-west by a line 10 metres south-west of the south-western edge of the Old spillway:in the north-west by a line at right-angles to the course of the river and in line with the north-western end of the old spillway : and in the south by an extention of the line which defines the northern boundary of Erf 3888, situated on Remainder of Lot 3064 and Remainder of Lot 3065, Pinetown, in the bourough of Pinetown and Administrative District of Natal.
