Site Comments:

The ruined stone foundations of a number of houses were located in the study area, generally situated around S32°54'09.25" E27°26'41.73", in association with terraced agricultural lands regularly scattered across the area. The structures are square and at some of the sites the stone have been painted. The age of the structures is not known but material culture such as glass, metal, enamel, plastic and wood found in the area might indicate a more recent age for the structures, provided that the material and the structures are contemporaneous. Yet, the sites might also date to the Historical Period during the founding of King Williamstown in the early 19th century, when German Colonists, descendants of the British German Legion occupied districts neighbouring King Williamstown after the Crimean War (also known as the ―Russian War‖) which lasted from 1853 to 1856.
