BK LSA Scatter

Post date: 02/06/2017
This scatter was reinterpreted during fieldwork to be inclusive of sites BK01, 02, 03, 04 and 05, and this greater area has therefore has been named “BK LSA Scatter” to indicate this larger site. A ferricrete outcrop occurs to the north of the scatter where many hundreds of artefacts are located. The southern sub-surface boundary of the scatter was determined by excavating test pits along the boundary created by visible, surface artefacts, and the exploration of sterile sands sub-surface from north to south (TP01 to TP03). It was ascertained that the depth of the scatter is not more than 550mm, and the boundary is quite well defined. Artefacts include flakes, cores, upper and lower grindstones, bladelets, choppers and materials include high numbers of silcrete, quartz and quartzite, with some hornfels.
