Site Comments:

The remains of an old mine similar to Site PL 8 was identified at this location up against the slopes of the hill. The iron bearing rock was mined from the slopes of the hill making use of open cast methods. The sides of the excavations were packed with rock to stabilise the open pit. The size of the excavation is 20m x 5m. Further down the slope various piles of crushed rock were identified. It is believed that the square cement structures identified further down the slope (Sites PL 22 and PL 23) could be associated with the remnants of this mine. It is therefore believed that the mine was relatively recent. No other features associated with the mining operations were identified.
