Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Site RD011 is the position of the original farmstead of the Saronde farm, the farmhouse is indicated on the 1943 topographical map (Figure 9), but is absent from the 1913 map. The farmstead consists of a main house with outbuildings, a barn and labourers cottages that were converted in to dormitories as part of the Christian campsite ran by the Hugills.
Tracey (2011) notes that the foundation of the main house on the Saronde farmstead was constructed from the stones taken from the original stone build blockhouse constructed by the British during the South African War. A retaining wall on the western side of the main house was part of the original British field hospital that was presumably situated on the farm.
