Site S4 comprise of 11 Historic Period residences grouped in a rough U-shape and located between S33˚05’04.9, E27˚48’34.6” – S33˚05’04.9”, E27˚48’37.1”; S33˚05’05.7”, E27˚48’38.0” – S33˚05’05.1”, E27˚48’38.9” and S33˚05’04.3”, E27˚48’39.3” – S33˚05’03.6”, 27˚48’38.6”. All the residences, constructed for the purpose of tourist accommodation at the then Umtiza Nature Reserve is inferred to date to the period 1930-1950. The residences were constructed from shingle and cement, with corrugated iron roofs and wooden and metal fittings. Deterioration has taken its toll and only a single residence is currently in an occupational state. Water damage and large exterior and interior cracks are beyond structural repair and renovation for re-use is not considered a possibility. The date of construction of the Site S4 tourist accommodation is inferred to date to the 1930’s-1950’s. Site S4 pre-dates 60 years of age. The site is formally protected under the NHRA 1999.
