Background scatter along the edge of the Collingwood Formation which has several chert bands, including the well-known Matjiesfontein Chert. The scatter was low density but it was interesting to note the variety of items present. These includes material likely to be of all three Stone Ages. Notably, many artefacts were simply natural pieces of stone, often diamond-shaped in crosssection), that had been modified slightly for further use. This included many small slabs of rock with abundant edge-damage as well as well-weathered handaxes that were made with around 3 to 5 removals. Although outside the powerline route, it likely serves as a representative sample of what would be present in those places where the route crosses this geology elsewhere.
