Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Expanded_Motivation: 

The Ohlange Institute was the first African-run and funded educational institution in South Africa. It was founded by Rev.John Langalibelele Dube and opened in 1901. The Institute is an important historic site as it was where Nelson Mandela chose to cast his vote in the 1994 elections. The site contains Rev.Dube’s house, his family graves and a museum complex. The school classrooms and the historic building, the male boarding house, are in need of upgrading. Additional classrooms, toilet facilities, sporting facilities, parking, boarding facilities and service areas are needed for the growing school. Blocks 1-5 : New dormitory blocks are proposed near the existing boys dormitory(block 1) and the dining hall is to be extended. The Staff block is to be extended (Block 6). Blocks F1-F3 : New classroom blocks Existing Block B : classroom circulation to be altered. Existing Block C : Classroom block refurbished Blocks 7-13 : Refurbishment of staff accommodation and tuck shop. New guard house for existing school entrane and new museum visitors entrance and parking proposed.
