Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Application for condonation of unlawful work on generally 'Protected' site that is older than 60 years, Northdene Station, Vausedale Rd, Northdene, Queensburgh, 4064. Work includes unlawful amendments to Station Building and Store Building 2 (both older than 60 years), as well as amendments to the Ablution Block (less than 60 years old). Additionally, the following buildings were unlawfully constructed since the previous condonation permit was obtained: unlawful Covered Seating, unlawful Ticket Office, unlawful Carport.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Northdene Station is on the District 1 Line of the "Old Natal Main line". The District 1 line was first opened in 1878, the Station was on the original line in 1880 (as seen in the steam rail timetable for December 1880). The station is older than 60 years, and the following structures on the station are also over 60 years and have heritage value: Station Building, Store Building 2 and Pedestrian Bridge. A description of the illegal work on the site is outlined below: Station Building (estimated more than 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016, except the following: New car port/awning structure on North corner Car port consists of 4x GMS square hollow posts, painted white, Steel purlin and rafter structure supporting grey IBR sheeting with integral gutter/fascia and UPVC rwdp – recommending this is removed Building was repainted from pink/peach to light grey and grey/blue. Store Building 2 (estimated more than 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016, except the following: Building was repainted from pink/peach to light grey and grey/blue. GMS steel burglar guards added to windows Fibre cement facia board (painted) and UPVC gutter added to roof Store Building 1 (estimated less than 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016 4 Ablution Block (estimated less than 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016, except the following: Walls (incl. door and window) to waiting area demolished to make waiting area a covered open space with benches Steps to waiting area extended to length of new opening in wall New plaster detail around new, wide waiting area entrance opening Covered seating (estimated more than 60 years old) Built since condonation permit was obtained. Concrete bench, painted, with low masonry wall (plastered and painted) as back rest 3x heavy duty I beams as columns on NW and SE ends of bench with one in centre of bench structure supporting steel rafter and purlin structure supporting butterfly IBR roof sheeting Ticket office (estimated less than 60 years old) Built since condonation permit was obtained. Masonry double pitched building with timber rafters and purlins, and concrete roof tiles. Small Aluminium windows (power-coated white) on NE and SW elevations.
