ProposalDescription:

Building Restoration at ERF 62 Tugela, Lower Tugela Primary School, Mandeni 4451

Expanded_Motivation:

The purpose of the application is to apply for a permit to carry out restorative work on the oldest building on the Lower Tugela Primary School, Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal. This was the first building to be erected on the school complex. It was constructed out of brick masonry and completed on the 8th of August 1932. The building as it stands today is vacant: it is dilapidated to the extent that the entire roof and suspended timber floors have collapsed, the windows and doors are no longer in place and the building interior and exterior have been over exposed to the elements. Our proposal seeks to revitalise this historic building and restore as much of the character of the original structure as we possibly can. The restored building will not only serve as additional teaching space for the school but also provide much needed space for a Library. This restoration will see an old gem brought back to life in honour of the rich history of Lower Tugela Primary School.
