ProposalDescription:

Proposed Repairs, Renovations & Internal Reconfiguration to Block F (Nathan Ward) & Block G (Welsch Ward) at Old Greys Hospital, Cnr Prince Alfred Street, Pietermaritzburg. REM of ERF 120 & ERF 868, PMB

Expanded_Motivation:

The project comprises a complete repairs, renovation & internal reconfiguration of two existing hospital ward buildings into offices for the Dept of Arts & Culture. There will be minimal changes to the facades except to incorporate existing verandahs as part of the offices using energy saving glass., create one new entrance each to both blocks & add an additional fire escape to Block F. A glazed independently supported steel bridge is proposed to link the two buildings for ease of access for both staff & disabled persons moving between the two buildings at the first floor level. This will require the creation of one new opening to each building. Bricks will be carefully taken out when forming these openings to be reused to form the reveals & used elsewhere for repair work. A concise description of the extent of work to be carried out throughout both buildings is contained in our 'Status Quo & Works Report'.
