Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

TRP is an existing platinum mine in Limpopo Province. Currently exploiting the UG2 reef within an existing mining right area (MRA). Current applications are to extend the surface infrastructure within the current MRA, and to extend the underground mine within the MRA, as well as beyond into the farms Kalkfontein and Tweefontein, to exploit additiona sections of the UG2 reef, and also the Merensky Reef. No surface infrastructure will be built on Kalkfontein and Tweefontein. Limpopo Province, near Steelpoort.

Expanded_Motivation:

Trial mining was undertaken for the proposed UG2&Merensky Expansion, and graves have already been relocated for this purpose, based on the 2012 SHASA Heritage Study. This was done prior to GCS being contracted to apply for the full UG2&Merensky Expansion. This (GCS) application is for implementation of the full expansion project, now that trial mining is complete. Existing Heritage Impact Assessment reports were used when compiling the EIA/EMP documents: conducted by Anton Von Vollenhoven in March 2002 (initial pre-mining study), and Frans Roodt in April 2012 (Merensky information applicable). Note that the historical adit identified in the 2012 SHASA study falls outside of the proposed UG2&Merensky expansion footprint.
