Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

The proposed UG1 opencast project will include the opencast mining of the chromite layer on the remaining extent of Portion 82 of the farm Waterval 306 JQ. There is approximately 1 million tons of the UG1 chromite layer that can potentially be mined using opencast mining methods.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The proposed UG1 opencast project will include the opencast mining of the chromite layer on the remaining extent of Portion 82 of the farm Waterval 306 JQ. There is approximately 1 million tons of the UG1 chromite layer that can potentially be mined using opencast mining methods. The project will take place in three phases: The proposed schedule for the respective phases are as follows: • Construction Phase = ~Two months • Operational Phase = ~3 years • Decommissioning and Closure Phase = ~6 – 12 months The proposed opencast activities will include the development of a boxcut and opencast areas on either side of the boxcut (total area of ~12ha). Drill and blast and free digging mining methods will be utilised. Overburden material will be stockpiled adjacent to the pit in two stockpiles. Ore will be transported via a dedicated haul road of approximately 1 km long to the existing Waterval West Plant for processing. The UG1 opencast project will require the following new surface infrastructure: • Access road and internal roads • Haul road • New substation and 11kV overhead powerline • Offices and change houses • Parking area • Laydown area • Topsoil stockpile • Overburden stockpile • Run of Mine/Muck stockpile • Pollution control dam • Pollution water trench
