Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Temporary export of Karoo vertebrate fossil for digital scanning

For temporary export of the following two (2) dicynodont specimens:

SAM-PK-K011409 (Aulacephalodon bainii) and SAM-PK-K011410 (Emydorhinus sciuroides)

 

The permit is issued to Dr. Roger Smith (Iziko Museums of SA), on behalf of Dr. Christian Kammerer (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Germany) and Dr. Jörg Fröbisch (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Germany), to temporarily export two (2) dicynodont specimens from the Late Permian near Graaff Reinett, Eastern Cape, for digital scanning at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin and if necessary at the neutron scanning facility of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin. The material is accessioned by the Iziko Museums of South Africa in Cape Town.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Iziko Museums of South Africa.

3. The material will be hand-carried by Dr. Roger Smith to the SVP Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, where it will be handed over to Dr. Christian Kammerer and Dr. Jörg Fröbisch, who will hand-carry it to Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Germany and back to the Iziko Museum in December 2017.

4. Dr. Christian Kammerer is responsible for the scanning of the material and Dr. Roger Smith, Dr. Christian Kammerer and Dr. Jörg Fröbisch for its transport to and from the above mentioned institution.

5. The specimens must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. Destructive analysis or sampling may not be undertaken.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 December 2017.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
