Conditions:
The MUCH Unit at SAHRA is pleased to issue the abovementioned permit.
1. The following terms and conditions apply:
- This permit must be read in conjunction with permit ID 2593. The conditions in this permit are intended as addenda to those contained in permit ID 2593.
- The conditions in this permit render condition 3 ("all excavation must be limited to what is strictly necessary for the purposes of positively identifying the wreck as that of the 'Nieuwe Haerlem.' This permit does not grant the holder authorisation to disturb any archaeological material. Should archaeological material be accidentally disturbed during the course of the excavation, SAHRA and the repository must be informed immediately. In this event, work must cease and may not commence until feedback has been received from SAHRA and the repository") of permit ID 2593 invalid. The conditions contained in this permit have no other influence whatsoever on those contained in permit ID 2593.
- SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to properties or persons, regardless of whether they are under the employ of the permit holder, volunteering their assistance with the works, or members of the public, as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
- SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
- A person who wishes to appeal the decision to grant this permit may do so within fourteen (14) days of the issuing of this permit.
2. This permit allows the holder to collect no more than ten (10) samples of material from the test excavation localities, subject to the following terms and conditions:
- Samples may only be removed from the wreck site for identification purposes. Samples that are not essential to identification of the site may not be removed from their original position.
- All samples removed from the site must be tagged and numbered upon removal, and the number and description of each sample must be entered into an accession register. A copy of this accession register must be submitted to the heritage authority with the permit report.All samples recovered must be recorded, preserved, and identified in collaboration with the Iziko Museums.
- All samples must be accessioned at Iziko Museums. No material may be disposed of without the permission of the heritage authority.
- No samples may be exported or analysed using destructive means under the authority of this permit. Permission to export or to analyse samples using destructive means shall require a separate permit application.
