Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

This permit is issued to Wouter Fourie (PGS Heritage) to conduct Phase 2 mitigation at Samancor Chrome Operations, Steelpoort, Limpopo Province for Heritage Resources to be impacted by the 100MW Plant Project.

1. This permit is issued in terms of Section 35(4) of the National Heritage Resources Act (25 of 1999) for Test Excavations and the use of a GPR Scan to establish and investigate the possibility of a burial at Site 2-3.

2. Upon discovery of any part of human remains or confirmation of a burial all activities must cease, the burial and human remains must be secured adequately. The remains may not be removed without a specific permit from SAHRA.

3. The discovery and confirmation of a burial may trigger section 36 (3) of the National Heritage Resources Act (25 of 1999) for burials older than 60 years but less than a 100 years old. The SAHRA's Burial Grounds and Graves (BGG) Unit must be contacted for further assistance (Thingahangwi Tshivhase/Ngqalabutho Madida 012 320 8490).

4. Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed.

5. A permit report on the results of the test excavations must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za on or before 30 November 2023 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

6. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit.

7. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

8. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

9. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

10. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
