Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

patrick.killick 30/05/2022 - 17:05 Dear I&AP/Authority/Stakeholder The 90MW Wolf Wind Farm located near Wolwefontein in the Eastern Cape, which received environmental authorisation in September 2015 and has undergone several amendments, has reference. As a registered I&AP you are hereby notified that the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment reached a decision on 25 May 2022 to grant the requested amendment to the Wolf Wind Energy Facility project description, reducing the number of approved wind turbine positions from 24 to 17. The reason for the amendment is that during the EMPr and layout finalisation process, two previously unidentified Verreaux’s Eagle nests were identified onsite by the avifauna specialist. The specialist, in consultation with BirdlifeSA, established a buffer area around these nests sites and recommended that the four (4) authorised turbine positions (WTGs No 12, 13, 14, and 15 on previous layouts) be located within the buffer be forfeit or moved. The site does not provide sufficient opportunity to move the turbine positions, and so the Applicant accepted the recommendation to remove these turbine positions and applied to have the EA amended. The project description in the final EMPr and the turbine positions in the final layout will reflect the change from 21 to 17 turbine positions. For more details, kindly consult the attached Environmental Authorisation (EA) which includes the reasons for the decision. Registered I&APs are further notified of the right to appeal the decision in terms of the National Appeal Regulations, 2014 (as amended) and the appeals procedure. Should you wish to appeal the decision, a written appeal, using the prescribed forms obtained from the DFFE website (see link below), must reach the appeals administrator by 21 June 2022, and a copy of the appeal must be provided to the Applicant and any registered I&APs and organs of state with an interest in the matter (Contact the undersigned for the I&AP register).
