ProposalDescription:

Expanded_Motivation:

As architects, our Client has approached us to undertake building renovations to their new building to suite their requirements of a Motor Car Showroom. Historically, being in the CBD of Durban, this building was a warehouse, then later used as Williams Hunt Car Sales. Upon doing an investigation as to the earliest set of approved plans we could acquire from the City Council, we find that the there have been a few dated 1935, 1968, 1983. (included in this submission for reference). In 1989, a set of Plans was submitted to the City Council. (included in this submission for reference). This was finally approved with deviations and settled sometime in 1994. The building has remained as is since, as per Approved plans dated 1994. Going back to 1935, a minor building existed until the late 1980`s, however, we find that this structure was demolished when the current building was built. (1989-1994). At this time, the demolished structure had reached 50 years old. Today, non of this structure exists in any shape or form given the 1990s pre- stressed slab, beam and column structure that now exists. We had done a council inquiry in an attempt to retrieve supporting documents, however no such documents have been found. Summary: 1935 : Existing Building(s) in use. 1968 : Renovations plans submitted to City Council. 1983 : Renovations plans submitted to City Council. 1987 : Entire structure demolished. 1989 : Plans submitted to City Council. 1991-1994 Current building built on site. 1994: Last deviation plans submitted to City Council. 2023: Plans submitted to City Council for Refurbishments to Existing Building Interior and minor External Restorations.
